The short answer
AI phone screening is a first-round call placed by a voice agent instead of a recruiter. In Revvox Dial, Vira calls each applicant within minutes, inside your calling hours, in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Arabic, Spanish, German and French. It asks your approved questions, marks the applicant Pass, Check or Not fit with the reason and their own words, and books passes into your interview slots. A person on your team decides every Check. Plans start at ₹3,499 a month for about 66 applicants.
What an AI phone screen does
The first call in most hiring is the same basic checks repeated many times a week: is the applicant still looking, do they have the experience the role needs, can they start in time, does the pay work, can they get to the location. Recruiters spend hours dialling, missing calls and calling back. Good applicants take another offer while they wait.
An AI phone screen moves that first call to a voice agent. Vira reaches every applicant, at any volume, within minutes of them applying, and asks every one of them the same questions in the same order. Your recruiters start their day with a list of passes, a short list of checks to decide, and booked interviews.
Example screening questions
You write or approve every question Vira asks. These are examples of what teams set, with what each one checks.
- Are you still looking for a new role, and when could you start?Availability and notice period against the start date you set.
- How many years have you worked with the main skill this role needs?Experience against the role's minimum, in the applicant's own words.
- The role is based in this city with three office days a week. Does that work for you?Location and working pattern, a common reason for late drop-outs.
- What pay are you expecting?Fit with the pay band you entered; outside it becomes a Check or Not fit by your rule.
- Tell me about the last project where you used this skill.A short, real answer, kept word for word for the recruiter to read.
- Do you have the right to work in this country?A must-have answered yes or no, never guessed.
How it works, step by step
- They apply. From your careers form, an uploaded list, or any system that can post to a signed link. Each record keeps the consent it came with.
- Vira calls within minutes. In the applicant's language, inside the calling hours you allow, asking only the questions you approved. No answer? It tries again by your rules.
- Pass, Check or Not fit. Experience, start date, pay, location and your must-haves, each with the reason and the applicant's own words. Anything unclear becomes a Check for a person.
- Booked and reminded. Passes pick an interview slot on the same call, get a WhatsApp confirmation and reminders 24 and 2 hours before. You mark who turned up.
Rules every call follows
- Consent is checked before every dial; nobody without a consent record is called.
- Anyone who says stop is never called again.
- Calls go out only inside the hours and days you allow.
- It never asks about religion, caste, gender, marital status or health, and asks age only as 18 or over.
- Every call keeps its transcript, so any result can be checked, exported, or erased on request.
- Vira screens and books. Every Check, and every hire, is your team's decision.
Where it fits in a tech hire
For engineering roles, the phone screen settles the basics before anyone spends time on code: notice period, location, pay expectations and the must-have skills. Passes can then take the coding round and a final round with a senior engineer. Both of those are in early access; phone screening is live today in Revvox Dial, described in full on the phone screening page.
